iPhone Duo 2 can integrate Face ID under the screen

The first generation iPhone Duo currently uses a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button on the side of the device similar to the iPad, because the thin and light design does not have enough space to accommodate the complex depth sensor cluster for Face ID.

However, expert Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that Duo 2 prototypes being tested internally at Apple are equipped with a Face ID system placed completely below the external secondary screen. If the project is on schedule, the next generation of folding iPhones will bring a premium biometric security experience without the need for a camera cutout or hole in the outer screen.

Besides hidden Face ID, Apple is also considering bringing back the Action button in iPhone Duo 2 prototypes. The Action button is one of the physical highlights on recent high-end iPhones, but had to be removed on the first generation iPhone Duo due to limited component space inside the ultra-thin folding chassis. Apple's testing of buttons again shows that the company has found a way to optimize the mechanical design for the next generation.

Information about iPhone Duo 2 appeared while iPhone Duo was officially launched for sale. Although Apple has not mentioned the configuration of next year's product, advances in under-screen sensor technology are expected to help the company's folding phone line become increasingly perfect.
