Users expect AI to do more

Survey "How are you using AI?" took place from September 28 to October 17, attracting 14,292 participants. Of these, men account for 76%, the 35-54 year old group accounts for the majority, while people under 25 years old account for 2.7%. Participants are mainly office workers, business people, freelancers and working in the information technology field.

The results show that AI has become a familiar tool for the majority of participants. 95% said they had ever used AI, of which 69% used it daily or several times per week. This level of usage also makes 60% think that if they cannot continue to use AI, their work will be affected.

Searching for information and answering questions is the most popular purpose, accounting for 30.9%. Users also use AI for learning, research, writing and word processing, translation, and creating images and videos. About 8% said AI was used to assist with any problem in life. Some other needs include programming, business support, healthcare and entertainment.

However, the popularity of AI also comes with concerns about quality and responsiveness. 90.2% of participants said they had encountered problems when using AI. Groups of issues were selected with a relatively even ratio, notably inaccurate or not updated information (20.6%), difficulty verifying information (18.6%), concerns about personal data being used (18.3%), and costs (11%).

More than 10% of participants think that AI does not understand some information, regulations or specific characteristics of Vietnam well. The ability to process Vietnamese and express yourself is also a limitation mentioned by users. Only about 10% said they had not encountered significant problems when using AI.

Users want more AI support

When asked about problems that they want to use AI to support but have not found the right tool or AI has not solved them well enough, the most prominent need lies in work and career development, accounting for 15.65%, equivalent to 3,969 responses.

Learning and education come next with about 13%, health and self-care account for 10%. Needs related to public services and administrative procedures reached 8.8%; safety, fraud prevention 7.82%. Besides that, there is business, sales and corporate management; finance, family and life, traffic and travel... Meanwhile, 15.85% of participants said they did not have a specific need that they wanted AI to support.

These results show that demand for AI is expanding from common tasks such as Q&A, search and content creation to more specific problems in work, education, health, public services and life. These are also areas that require AI to be able to understand context, data and user needs in Vietnam.

Room for AI Vietnam

Although 95% of participants have used AI, the level of awareness of Vietnamese AI products is still limited. Nearly 76% did not know about AI Viet products or had used them but did not know that it was a product developed in Vietnam. Only about 15% said they had ever used AI Viet products.

An awareness gap does not mean a lack of concern. 46% of participants said they are willing to use AI products developed by Vietnamese people if the tools can solve problems they are facing in life. About 16% are willing to pay a fee and recommend the product to others.

With AI Viet, factors prioritized by users include the ability to understand Vietnamese and the Vietnamese context, accuracy, ability to properly meet domestic needs, personal data protection, easy-to-use interface and appropriate cost.

These results show that users not only care about what AI can do, but also focus on its relevance to language, context, and actual needs. This may be a gap for Vietnamese AI products to focus on developing, while at the same time setting higher requirements for accuracy, verifiability and data protection as AI is increasingly used in work and life.
