10 good science books nominated for 2026 awards

The final results will be announced at the ceremony to celebrate the National Innovation Festival, held on October 4. The award is implemented by Science - Technology - Communication Publishing House under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, to recognize publications with scientific value, application and pervasiveness, honoring the contributions of authors and publishing workers.

In the first year of organization, the contest attracted 329 works. In the preliminary round, the jury is made up of experts in technology, natural sciences, and humanities, judging based on scientific value, novelty, applicability and publication quality. Accordingly, 10 works entered the final round and were voted by the council to find one first prize, three prizes each for second, third, and consolation prizes.

The award implementing agency said that the submitted works are evaluated for their academic value, practicality, applicability and social contribution. The 10 excellent publications shortlisted for the final round address biodiversity conservation, nuclear energy, health, artificial intelligence, digital skills, and economic, cultural, and historical issues.

In the field of conservation, the Vietnam Red Book 2024 version by the author group of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology updates information on 1,398 species threatened with extinction. The book series includes two volumes on animals, plants and fungi, providing data for research, policy development and conservation planning. This is also a document serving the implementation of international conventions on biodiversity.

In the group of books on digital transformation, AI and Humans by Professor Dr. Ho Tu Bao introduces the basic knowledge, potential and problems artificial intelligence poses to humans. The work takes a popular approach, helping readers understand and use AI responsibly, and is awarded in the form of an e-book.

The book Popular Digital Learning - Basic Digital Skills compiled by Dr. Tran Van Khai includes 26 lectures, aimed at many groups of readers, from officials and workers to pupils and students. The content helps learners use digital technology safely in study, work and life, and self-assess their abilities to build a skills development roadmap.

Talking about modern production, Developing new production forces for breakthroughs in the digital era by Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thanh Son analyzes the role of AI, Internet of Things, robots, big data, digital platforms and digital human resources in new production methods. From international experience and business practice, the book suggests ways to develop smart manufacturing and digital transformation in Vietnam.

The book Nuclear Power Safety by Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hien talks about safety, legal regulations and the development trend of small modular reactors (SMR). The book mentions the requirements placed on Vietnam when projects in Ninh Thuan are restarted.

In the economics and management group, Economics for the Common Good - How to Make Economic Decisions Serve the Many by Jean Tirole, translated by author Phung Quang Hung, discusses the financial crisis, globalization, labor market and climate change. The work analyzes the role of the market, State intervention and how to balance individual interests with the common good.

A reform vision for Urban Development Planning in Vietnam by the author group David Ching Heng Hoe, Truong Nam Thuan, Nguyen Van Vuong and Le Anh Dung examines the relationship between development thinking and how to build policies and social organizations. The book analyzes bottlenecks and suggests a multi-dimensional, people-centered approach, focusing on long-term vision.

Two medical works focus on treatment and emergency needs. Out-of-hospital emergency care, edited by Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Bui Hai, was built from research and experience with models in France, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand. The book provides knowledge for medical staff, coordinators and community volunteers, aiming to improve first aid capacity and professionalize the out-of-hospital emergency system.

Handbook on antibiotic use in hospitals by Dr. Nguyen Duc Long and Associate Professor Dr. Tran Ngoc Son is compiled from professional knowledge and treatment practice at Saint Paul General Hospital. The book guides the selection, prescribing, use and management of antibiotics in the treatment of infections in adults and children, contributing to limiting drug abuse.

In the field of history and language, History of the national language (1615-1919) by Dr. Pham Thi Kieu Ly, translated by Thanh Thu, examines the process of formation and development of the national language over more than 300 years. Based on historical and linguistic documents, the book clarifies the contributions of Western missionaries and Vietnamese collaborators, from the time this script served missionaries until it was widely popularized.

According to Mr. Tran Chi Dat, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Award, the activity aims to encourage research, compilation and publishing of quality books to serve research, training, management, production and life. The award also promotes connecting scientists with publishers, improving the quality of editing, presentation and application of publishing technology. The selection of e-books opens up more ways to bring scientific knowledge to readers on a digital platform.

The award ceremony will take place on October 4 as part of a series of activities to celebrate the National Innovation Festival. This year's festival has the theme "Innovation - The driving force for development of the entire society", encouraging organizations, businesses and people to apply science and technology to create products and results that contribute to the goal of high growth.
