10 outstanding books awarded science and technology awards in 2026

The award was implemented by the Science - Technology - Communication Publishing House under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, awarded on October 4, to recognize publications with scientific value, application and pervasiveness, honoring the contributions of authors and those working in publishing.
In the first year of organization, the contest attracted 329 works. In the preliminary round, the jury is made up of experts in technology, natural sciences, and humanities, judging based on scientific value, novelty, applicability and publication quality. Accordingly, 10 works entered the final round and were voted by the council to find one first prize, three prizes each for second, third, and consolation prizes.

1. Vietnam Red Book
Vietnam Red Book 2024 by the author group of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology won first prize. The book includes two volumes, recording 1,398 species threatened with extinction in Vietnam, an increase of 562 species compared to the 2007 version.
The book's content updates information on taxonomy, distribution area, population status and threats to each species. The new version identifies 5 animal species that are extinct or extinct in the wild in Vietnam, providing a basis for biodiversity management and conservation.
2. AI and humans
The book by Professor. Dr. Ho Tu Bao is the author, including 8 chapters, introducing from basic concepts of AI to values, risks and relationships between AI and society and people. Concepts of computer science, machine learning, and deep learning are presented in an approachable approach, accompanied by illustrations. The book also discusses the impact of AI, while emphasizing the role of humans in the digital world. The book was awarded Second Prize.
3. Popular digital education - Basic digital skills
The book compiled by Dr. Tran Van Khai, including 26 lectures, from basic concepts to practical operations, was awarded Second Prize. The book's content is built based on the Basic Digital Knowledge and Skills Framework of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Readers are guided in essential digital skills such as using computers, exploiting the Internet, securing personal information and applying digital platforms in work and life. The book also provides instructions on how to use digital platforms safely, effectively and creatively, suitable for beginners or those who want to improve their digital capabilities.
4. Develop new production forces to breakthrough in the digital era
The book by Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thanh Son systemizes concepts, analyzes the nature, structure, motivation and impact value of new productive forces in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, globalization and digitalization. The book was awarded Second Prize.
The author introduces experiences from Germany, America, Japan, Korea, Australia, China and a number of typical businesses, universities and research institutes. From these experiences, the book draws lessons and proposes solutions suitable for Vietnam.
5. Out-of-hospital emergency
"Out-of-hospital emergency" was formed from the study, research and practical experience of Associate Professor. Dr. Hoang Bui Hai in France, Singapore, Japan and Thailand, won the third prize.
The book approaches models of out-of-hospital emergency care in these countries, and identifies gaps in Vietnamese practice. From the current situation of low first aid and survival rates after out-of-hospital circulatory arrest, the work clarifies the need to build, develop and professionalize the out-of-hospital emergency system.
6. History of the national language (1615-1919)
History of the national language is the research work of Dr. Pham Thi Kieu Ly on the process of formation and development of the national language over 300 years, and was awarded Third Prize.
The book examines the history of the national language from 1615, when Jesuit missionaries came to preach in Cochinchina, to 1919, the last year of the Society's examinations held in the capital Hue. To access the documents, the author diligently researched Latin, Portuguese and European ancient literature, and collected and analyzed many documents in archives in Rome, Paris, Lisbon, Ávila and Madrid.

7. Nuclear power safety
Professor's book. Dr. Pham Duy Hien places nuclear power in the context of increasing energy demand, along with the development of AI and data centers. The book provides readers with legal regulations and trends in small modular reactor (SMR) development and changes in Vietnam when Ninh Thuan projects are restarted. The book was awarded third prize.
8. Handbook on antibiotic use in hospitals
Handbook on antibiotic use in hospitals by Dr. Doctor Nguyen Duc Long and Associate Professor. Dr. Tran Ngoc Son edited, with the participation of nearly 100 authors. The book was awarded an Encouragement Award.
This is a document compiled by leading experts, with updated content and closely follows treatment activities at Saint Paul General Hospital. The book provides in-depth knowledge and practical experience to support medical staff in using antibiotics effectively, minimizing the risk of drug resistance and improving treatment effectiveness.
9. Reform vision for Urban Development Planning in Vietnam
The book by the author group David Ching Heng Hoe, Truong Nam Thuan, Nguyen Van Vuong and Le Anh Dung, focuses on thinking about urban development and planning. The work points out the bottlenecks in development thinking and the consequences.
The book's content raises questions about the role of people in planning and how to build urban living space. From there, the authors suggest a multi-dimensional, flexible, human-centered approach that is suitable for practice. The book was awarded an Encouragement Award.
10. Economics for the Common Good: How to Make Economic Decisions Serve the Many
The book is a translation of the work of Jean Tirole, an economist who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2014. From the financial crisis, globalization, the labor market to climate change, Jean Tirole raises questions about the role of the market, State intervention and how to balance personal interests with the common good.
Not focusing on formulas or academic theories, the book approaches economics as a tool for readers to clearly see the choices, trade-offs and consequences behind socio-economic decisions. The book was awarded an Encouragement Award.
