Apple invests 30 billion USD to make chips with Broadcom, targets 15 billion "Made in USA" chips

Apple signed an agreement to invest more than $30 billion in chips with Broadcom. This agreement lasts until 2031 and revolves around FBAR - a frequency band chip used for wireless connectivity in Apple devices, which Apple has been developing in cooperation with Broadcom since 2023. Also according to the agreement, Broadcom will invest $1.5 billion to expand the factory in Fort Collins, Colorado. Apple expects to be able to produce at least 15 billion "Made in USA" chips and this project supports efforts to "increase domestic component supply". The deal stems from Apple's commitment to invest $600 billion in the US economy over the next four years in response to growing pressure from the Trump administration. Last year, President Trump threatened to impose new tariffs on Apple products unless the company moved iPhone production to the US. Trump later reversed the policy and to this day iPhones are still manufactured abroad. The deal with Broadcomm will help create "hundreds of jobs in the US" but this number is still too small compared to the $30 billion value of the deal. According to Techcrunch
