Apple extends MacBook Air delivery time

(Dan Tri) - Although the supply of MacBook Air at retail systems in Vietnam is still stable, users who order directly on the Apple Store have to wait 3 to 4 weeks to receive the device.

This situation is said to stem from memory supply pressure in the context of the booming AI industry.

Talking to Dan Tri reporters, many large retail systems in Vietnam said that MacBook Air inventory is still stable, enough to meet market demand.

However, when users order through Apple's official website, the waiting time for delivery is relatively long. Depending on the version and storage capacity, users may have to wait 3-4 weeks to receive the device.

At the end of June, Apple adjusted the price of the MacBook Air M5 standard version from 30 million VND to 36 million VND. The difference is up to 6 million VND. Even higher capacity versions have larger price increases.

"After the recent price adjustment, MacBook Air sales have increased by nearly 59% in the entire MacBook industry. A part of users have switched from MacBook Neo to MacBook Air when the price gap between these two models gradually narrows," Minh Tuan Mobile representative shared.

Meanwhile, a representative of Mobile America said that the MacBook Air is currently the MacBook line that users are most interested in. In a context where the MacBook Neo no longer has an advantage in price and the MacBook Pro mainly serves professional customer groups, the MacBook Air becomes a balanced and suitable choice for many people.

According to CNBC, the long delivery status of the MacBook Air takes place in the context of the global memory supply chain under a lot of pressure from the wave of investment in AI infrastructure.

Memory manufacturers like Micron are prioritizing high bandwidth memory (HBM) production capacity for AI servers. It is estimated that to produce one HBM unit, businesses must cut production capacity by about three units of conventional DRAM memory for consumer electronics devices.

This shift makes the supply of memory chips for personal computers and phones become tighter, and has pushed up the prices of DRAM and NAND in recent times. Apple has also adjusted the selling price of many products in some markets, with increases ranging from 100 USD to 400 USD depending on the device.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is having difficulty maintaining laptop supply.

"Retail sources say Apple is having difficulty maintaining laptop supply. Shipments are now more limited than ever," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said.

Some analysts believe that pressure on memory supply is one of the reasons why MacBook Air delivery times are long.

Apple did not comment on this issue nor confirm the specific cause of slow delivery on the Apple Store.
