AFF Cup 2026 officially kicks off not long after the 2026 World Cup ends. The Vietnamese team entered the tournament as the defending champions and opened with a 7-0 victory over Timor-Leste on the evening of July 24. Striker Nguyen Dinh Bac scored a hat-trick, temporarily leading the tournament's scoring list.

According to the match schedule, the Vietnamese team will meet Singapore at home on July 31 before playing away to Indonesia on August 3.
