Nvidia and AMD CEOs join the advisory board of Tsinghua University

In an announcement on the Tsinghua University website on September 30, Mr. Huang and Ms. Su will join the advisory board of Tsinghua SEM along with Marc Pictet of asset management and investment group Pictet Group (Switzerland). In it, Mr. Huang was introduced as the founder of Nvidia, the company that "invented the graphics processor" and "opened the modern AI era", while Ms. Su "successfully turned AMD into a leading company in high-performance and adaptive computing."

The new move came after the two were among American technology business leaders attending a state banquet at the White House last week, within the framework of the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan. As for CEO Nvidia, this was predicted when earlier this year, he was said to have accepted an invitation to join the board of directors of Tsinghua University.
According to SCMP, the fact that the leaders of the world's two most advanced AI chip suppliers in the US join Tsinghua SEM's advisory council shows that both seek to maintain access to the Chinese market. On the contrary, the appointment decision also emphasizes the council's role as a channel connecting powerful business directors with one of China's leading universities.
Tsinghua University is one of the largest research universities in China. Founded in 1911, the school offers training in many fields such as science, engineering, technology and economics, as well as has cooperation programs with businesses and international organizations, and organizes many forums that bring together business leaders, scholars and officials.
Tsinghua SEM was established in 2000 with the support of former Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji, and is considered one of the most prestigious and leading business schools. Tsinghua University describes Tsinghua SEM's advisory board as a platform that strengthens the school's links with the wider academic and business community, and helps improve research and teaching, supporting its ambition to become a world-class business school.
Tsinghua SEM's advisory board currently has a number of famous people participating, such as BMW Chairman Milan Nedeljkovic, Walmart Chairman and CEO John Furner, or Coca-Cola CEO Henrique Braun. Apple Chairman Tim Cook has held the position of Chairman of the board from 2019 to present. The council's 27th annual meeting will take place in Beijing on October 13-14.
