Prepare Cloud infrastructure for peak periods

"Research on festive shopping behavior" conducted by Meta in collaboration with Ipsos in 18 global markets shows that the peak shopping journey in Vietnam is extending into a continuous series from October to Lunar New Year. The system receives traffic and transactions that go up and down many times over many months, putting pressure on infrastructure from retail and e-commerce businesses to payment organizations, banks, logistics...

Cloud infrastructure allows businesses to expand and contract resources according to need. When AI participates in operations, businesses need to add corresponding computing and storage capacity, and backup architecture needs to ensure service maintenance if part of the infrastructure fails.

The solution when traffic and AI tasks increase together

According to research conducted by Kantar, 85.6% of adult Internet users in Vietnam want to receive relevant information about products, services, and offers. 80.8% appreciate the ability of AI assistants to make recommendations tailored to individual needs.

When AI is introduced into customer touch points (consultation, search, product suggestions, personalization...), the number of transactions increases during each peak period, leading to a sharp increase in the amount of data to be processed and the need for inference and calculation. Insufficient computing power can become a bottleneck that reduces customer experience.

According to FPT Cloud experts, a larger transaction volume also entails more data retrieval and reading and writing operations. The storage layer that does not keep up with the speed will become the next bottleneck of the entire system even though computing capacity has been expanded.

This is the reason why FPT Cloud's newest infrastructure zone, Zone Thu Duc, provides virtual servers equipped with GPUs to increase computing capacity for enterprise AI. This zone also applies new generation NVMe technology to the entire storage system, shortening database access time and real-time transaction processing by up to 60%.

FPT Cloud said it is adding a high-performance storage line specifically for AI (High Performance Storage) at Zone Thu Duc according to the completion roadmap in 2026, allowing many GPU resources to access shared data warehouses with high throughput.

Multi-zone redundancy to limit damage scope

According to the unit, each minute of transaction during the peak season brings higher value than weekdays, which means that each minute of failure also causes greater damage. Businesses need to have a plan to distribute workloads and data across separate infrastructure areas so that an incident in one place does not disrupt the entire system.

For example, FPT Cloud customers in Ho Chi Minh City can design a multi-zone architecture with Zone Tan Thuan and Zone Thu Duc, in Hanoi with Zone Cau Giay and Zone Hoa Lac. FPT Cloud's local link route in Ho Chi Minh City is deployed on four independent fiber optic cable lines through two separate telecommunications providers, helping to reduce single point of failure; reaching a total bandwidth of 400Gbps, round-trip latency is about 3 ms.

The unit also maintains the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City connection line with a total capacity of 80 Gbps, helping businesses arrange main systems and backup systems in two separate geographical areas within Vietnamese territory. In addition to backup architecture, organizations need to determine recovery goals according to business requirements in the event of an incident or disaster such as how long the service can be interrupted (RTO); accept how much data to lose when recovering (RPO).
