(Dan Tri) - The fixed broadband Internet market in Vietnam is witnessing a fierce technology race between major network operators.

After the period of popularizing 1Gbps packages, the competitive focus has now shifted to the 2Gbps speed milestone combined with WiFi 7 technology.

On August 28, Viettel Telecom launched a series of Viettel GIGA packages with integrated WiFi 7. Viettel's 2Gbps (GIGA6) package costs from 485,000 VND/month. To expand popularity, Viettel even offers the option to experience WiFi 7 at 1Gbps speed with prices from 279,000 VND/month.

Previously, FPT opened this race with the SpeedX2 package using XGS-PON and WiFi 7 infrastructure. The package provides 2Gbps speed for both download directions with prices starting from 999,000 VND/month.

Behind the above upgrade race is the close combination of fiber optic infrastructure and new generation wireless technology. Both carriers apply XGS-PON, a new generation fiber optic transmission technology that allows theoretical speeds of up to 10Gbps.

In theory, WiFi 7 supports a maximum speed of 46Gbps, 4.8 times faster than WiFi 6, allowing downloading 8K quality movies or large data files in just a few seconds. Besides, this technology also improves channel width, supports multi-band connections and better load capacity.

This upgrade completely solves the need to connect dozens of smart devices such as TVs, cameras, phones, laptops, etc. in families at the same time during peak hours without worrying about network congestion.
