Detailed evaluation of the quality of photos taken from the OPPO Reno16 5G camera

(Dan Tri) - Compared to the previous generation, the camera system on OPPO Reno16 5G has been upgraded with a set of 3 sensors with the same 50MP resolution, helping the image quality between focal lengths to be more uniform.
Reno16 5G owns a 26mm focal length main lens with f/1.8 aperture that supports OIS optical image stabilization, an 85mm focal length telephoto lens with f/2.8 aperture that supports 3.5x optical zoom that also integrates OIS, and finally a 15mm focal length ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.0 aperture.
Upgrading the resolution of the ultra wide-angle lens to 50MP is a positive change compared to previous generations, which often used lower resolution sensors. In theory, using a 50MP sensor for an ultra-wide-angle camera promises to improve detail compared to previous generations, which used sensors with lower resolution.

In daylight conditions, the device's main camera demonstrates the ability to capture good details and handle colors with moderate saturation. Photos of architectural works and outdoor works of art show that color patches such as orange, green and blue are clearly separated, without color encroachment.
The photos retain the volume of the subject and the clarity of the sky. In high-contrast scenes, the HDR system helps limit blow-out in clouds and retain more detail in shadow areas.

When switching to night and low-light shooting conditions, the camera system of the Reno16 5G main camera controls noise at a fair level, through a combination of hardware and processing algorithms. In panoramic photos of the city with brightly lit buildings, the main camera maintains detail in signs and windows even though the ISO level is pushed to 1,600 or 2,000.
The shutter speed is lowered to 1/20s, but thanks to the support of OIS optical image stabilization, the phenomenon of blur is minimized, keeping the light spots from being streaked. In particular, the night sky is not discolored but still retains the natural dark blue color and details of the cloud layers.
The ability to take photos with the 3.5x telephoto lens in low-light environments is another notable point of the device. With a focal length of 85mm, this lens allows you to approach distant subjects such as tourist boats on the river or decorative structures in the park while still ensuring the necessary brightness.
Photos taken at ISO 1,000 at a speed of 1/33s show that the light reflected on the water surface is vividly reproduced, the contrast between light and dark areas is clearly separated. Equipping OIS on both telephoto lenses makes taking photos at long focal lengths easier, limiting image blur even when users do not use devices that support camera fixation.

For an ultra-wide-angle lens in bright conditions, the 15mm focal length provides a strong depth effect when photographing tall buildings from below. Thanks to the 50MP sensor, sharpness at the edges of the image is maintained stably, minimizing the blurring phenomenon common on traditional wide-angle lenses.
The image of the greenhouse block appears sharp, the architectural lines are straight and not excessively distorted at the corners. This shows that the device's angular distortion correction algorithm works effectively, helping landscape photos achieve spatial realism.

Portrait photography mode on Reno16 5G provides flexibility by allowing users to choose between 1x, 2x and 3.5x zoom levels, corresponding to popular focal lengths in portrait photography of 26mm, 50mm and 85mm.
At 85mm focal length, the background is compressed to help the subject stand out more, while creating a natural and soft background blur effect. The AI system participates in the background separation process, helping difficult details such as hair or shirt hems to be processed with fewer errors.

The front selfie camera has a resolution of 50MP with a wide viewing angle of 100 degrees, good support for taking group photos or taking more context behind. This sensor is also optimized to keep facial proportions looking natural when shooting at wide angles.
On Reno16 5G, OPPO also equips the device with the POP Cam feature. This is an innovative photography tool developed to satisfy young users' nostalgic trends and preferences for using old digital cameras.

This mode integrates a total of 9 different color filters, simulating typical image styles from previous generation recording devices. Having these filters available helps users create nostalgic colorful frames instantly without having to carry bulky equipment or perform complicated post-production steps through third-party applications.
Among POP Cam's color filters, there are outstanding effects that recreate the image quality of previous eras in detail. For example, the Y2K Digital Camera filter creates a somewhat hazy image quality, mimicking the style of digital cameras popular in the early 2000s.
In addition, the Instant Film filter brings out the retro tones typical of instant film photos. Meanwhile, the Exposure effect simulates exposure on film to create more artistic and unique photos. These options allow users to freely shape their personal style through a variety of image formats.

Equipped with the ColorOS 16 platform, the device also fully integrates a set of AI tools to support image editing such as AI Portrait Brightening, AI Recreation, AI Object Removal, AI Clarity Enhancement, AI Face Sharpening, AI Anti-Glare,...
In addition, the device also supports AI Creative Photo Collage (Popout 2.0). The most outstanding improvement of this feature is the ability to help the subject look like it is vividly "stepping out" of the frame in all different directions. This change helps photos no longer be limited in space, creating a more realistic and multi-dimensional feeling of movement.

The recognition capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) have also expanded significantly. Thanks to smart algorithms, AI can now recognize and flexibly handle many different contexts, from architectural works to familiar objects in life. This allows users to be creative and turn ordinary moments into 3D frames.
Besides, Popout 2.0 also provides high flexibility in layout design by allowing users to combine a total of up to 9 photos in one frame. At the same time, this feature also supports frame overflow effects for up to 3 moving images or 9 still images.
The camera system on OPPO Reno16 5G is a combination of synchronous hardware parameters and smart AI algorithms. New generation software features help the device meet many different photography needs of users.

The device is suitable for young users and can meet a variety of photography needs from architecture, wide-angle landscapes to portraits. Users can also create artistic styles through built-in color filters.
However, the telephoto lens only supports 3.5x optical zoom. Therefore, the device is not a choice for users who regularly shoot subjects at a distance or have in-depth photography needs like on flagship models.
