SFone's previous phone number is about to be auctioned, starting at 2.5 billion VND

According to Vietnam Partnership Auction Company (VPA), the auction for the right to use mobile network code 95 takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on July 10. Organizations and businesses wishing to participate in the auction must complete registration before July 7.

Mobile network code is a code used in telecommunications networks to identify the network operator. Code 95 corresponds to the prefix 095, which used to belong to SFone - a rare network operator in Vietnam that uses CDMA technology. In 2016, SFone stopped operating. Since then, the number 095 has almost disappeared.

According to the Department of Telecommunications - Ministry of Science and Technology, organizations and businesses established under Vietnamese law can participate in the auction for the right to use network code 95 when they meet a number of specific conditions, such as having a license to provide mobile telecommunications services or a license to establish and provide virtual mobile telecommunications network services.

Participating businesses and organizations must also complete financial obligations regarding telecommunications and radio frequencies, such as fees for telecommunications operations rights, fees for using telecommunications number warehouses, fees for granting rights to use frequencies, fees for using radio frequencies and financial contributions to the Vietnam Public Telecommunications Service Fund, before the auction.

The management agency requires the auction unit to commit to putting telecommunications codes and numbers into operation and use within a maximum of 6 months from the date of allocation.

The Department of Telecommunications said that the auction of the right to use network code 95 is of great significance, aiming to effectively exploit the number warehouse to meet the needs of businesses and people. This activity also helps increase revenue for the State budget.

Previously, in January, the Department of Telecommunications successfully auctioned two numbers 1555 and 1500 for 1.02 billion VND, while numbers 1299 and 1558 both reached one billion VND. In April, four codes and telecommunication numbers including 1515, 5151, 6789 and 9999 continued to be auctioned, some codes were paid hundreds of millions of dong higher than the starting price.

Besides mobile network code 95, in July, two short message service (SMS) numbers, 5599 and 9559, will also be auctioned for use rights by the Department of Telecommunications.
