TV prices in Vietnam may increase due to AI fever

AI fever affects global memory chip supply

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nakashima Tomohiro, General Director of Sony Electronics Vietnam, said that the demand for AI is increasing sharply and AI requires a lot of memory chips. At the same time, the supply of memory chips on the market is currently both scarce and constantly increasing in price.

Mr. Nakashima Tomohiro said Sony was aware of the problem very early. However, the company has not yet recorded a significant impact on its TV supply.

"The AI fever continues. We have recorded a sharp increase in prices in some product sectors. We will continue to closely monitor developments in the global supply chain. Regarding retail prices, Sony will consider many different market factors to make reasonable decisions at the appropriate time", General Director of Sony Electronics Vietnam shared.

Previously, in an interview in April, Mr. Kim Jaeseung, General Director of Asia-Pacific region, LG Electronics, also affirmed that rising component prices are a common difficulty for all manufacturers amid the global AI fever. And when component prices increase too high, manufacturers will be forced to partially adjust the selling price.

It can be seen that the explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) is unintentionally strangling the global hardware supply chain. This influence is increasingly spreading to many electronic industries from phones, computers to household appliances such as smart TVs.

Vietnamese people love big screen TVs

However, experts predict that the TV industry will still witness growth thanks to the 2026 World Cup season. Mr. Tran Nhat Tan, National Sales Director of Sony Electronics Vietnam, said that all factors related to sports events will bring a positive impact to encourage the demand for large-sized TVs.

"In Vietnam, the number of people who love sports, especially football, is very large. Therefore, the need to experience watching football on a large screen TV is very high. Even before the World Cup took place, the large-sized TV segment has grown strongly.

Previously, TV models larger than 65 inches were chosen by many users. To date, this trend continues to be promoted with products larger than 85-100 inches in size. We predict that the large-sized screen segment will be the group with the strongest growth and lead the market development," Mr. Tan shared.

The trend for large-screen TVs is also reflected in Sony's new product portfolio. In 2026, the company introduces many TV models ranging in size from 98 inches to 100 inches, spanning both high-end and popular segments.

According to manufacturers and retailers, demand for large-screen TVs has tended to increase in recent years, especially during periods of major sporting events.

Mr. Pham Quoc Bao Duy, Director of Electronics Industry at FPT Shop system, said that purchasing power in the TV industry during the World Cup season usually increases by about 40-50% compared to the previous month.

Also according to dealers, during this year's World Cup season, the 65-75 inch large TV group is the choice that customers are most interested in. In addition, TV lines that support scanning frequencies of 120Hz or higher are also given priority thanks to providing a smoother visual experience when watching high-speed matches.

"Based on previous data, TV industry sales can increase by 70-80% compared to normal times thanks to the need to upgrade the experience of watching football at home," Mr. Nguyen Lac Huy, communications representative of CellphoneS system, shared.
