Google Pixel Tag launched: Google's first location tag, priced from 29 USD
Google officially launched Pixel Tag, its first location tag, helping users track important items such as keys, wallets or luggage through the Find Hub network. This is Google's new step in the smart location tag race, which already has the participation of competitors like Apple with AirTag.
In terms of design, Pixel Tag is thin and light, made from durable stainless steel, resistant to warping and cracking, and meets IP67 water and dust resistance standards. The device is equipped with a built-in speaker to play sounds to assist in searching, and also has a button that allows the phone to ring in the opposite direction. Pixel Tag's battery has a lifespan of up to one year and users can easily replace the battery themselves.
Setting up the Pixel Tag is quite simple, just pull the battery tab and hold the tag near your Android device running Android 9 or higher, then pair automatically via Fast Pair. Users can name items by selecting an existing category or enter a custom label right in the Find Hub app, and can share a Pixel Tag with up to 10 people to help find common items.
Regarding positioning capabilities, the Find Hub application displays the location of items on a map, allowing you to ring the bell to find items while still within Bluetooth range. Ultra-Wideband technology combined with Bluetooth Channel Sounding also supports highly accurate positioning, providing visual distance and direction instructions, helping to find items even when mixed in a pile of laundry or stuck between sofa slots. The Left Behind Alerts feature can be activated to proactively warn, helping to limit items being left behind. In the event the Pixel Tag goes out of Bluetooth range, Find Hub will leverage a global network of more than one billion Android devices to securely locate lost items, with end-to-end encrypted location information to protect user data. The phone will also automatically warn when it detects a strange location tag moving with the user, with instructions on how to ring the bell to find the tag and next steps.
Pixel Tag is also compatible with other Pixel devices. Users can locate and ring the card to find the card directly from the Pixel Watch through the Find Hub app or browser, or use Pixel Buds to ask Gemini to ring the card to find the card for them. Google Pixel Tag will be sold for 29 USD for one, or 99 USD for a set of 4, officially available from November 11 at the Google Store.
