Green SM officially entered the US market, starting in Los Angeles

Green SM has just put its electric taxi service into operation in Los Angeles from October 13 (local time). This is the first time the Vietnamese electric car company is present in North America, and the US is the company's 9th market, after Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark and the Netherlands. Users in Los Angeles have three ways to call a car: book through the Green SM application, call the switchboard, or hail a car directly on the street. Green SM said the service will serve both daily travel needs, long-distance trips and airport transfers.

The entire fleet here is VinFast VF 8, a D-sized electric SUV that VinFast has sold in the US since 2023. This approach is similar to Green SM's other markets: taxi companies use VinFast cars, thereby both operating the service and bringing VinFast cars to the streets, to actual users.

Regarding drivers, Green SM said that in the first phase, it will build an on-site operating system and recruit and train local drivers. To attract customers during the launch period, new users receive a 50% discount on fares for the first 5 trips, up to 12 USD per trip. In addition, customers can register for a free Green Pass membership package, each month receive 10 codes for 30% discount on fares, each code for a maximum discount of 10 USD. The announcement does not state the basic fare schedule. Los Angeles is a high-demand market, competing directly with Uber, Lyft and traditional taxi services. This will be the biggest test ever for Green SM's model abroad. After Los Angeles, the company said it will continue to invest in fleet, technology, drivers and service quality to expand in the US.
