A series of old iPhones and MacBooks disappeared from genuine store shelves

(Dan Tri) - The technology market in Vietnam is witnessing a series of changes as Apple and authorized dealers simultaneously discontinue many older product lines to focus on newer generations.
As noted by Dan Tri reporter, iPhone models that were once the top choice in the low-cost and mid-range segment such as iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are gradually disappearing from genuine store shelves due to depleted supply.

This change is not only happening with phones but also spreading to laptops. Many dealers have stopped selling MacBook Air M2, MacBook Air M4 and MacBook Pro M4 models.
Explaining the above fluctuation, Ms. Van Thi Ngoc Yen, deputy product manager at Di Dong Viet, said this is an inevitable development in Apple's product portfolio management cycle.
"This move is to optimize operational efficiency and focus on new devices. This is not a unique situation of a retail system but a general development in the market when these models enter the end of their life cycle," Ms. Yen commented.
In fact, narrowing the supply of old models helps the product ecosystem become more synchronized. At the same time, this could push users to adopt new generation devices with longer support lifecycles.
"Apple's discontinuation of sales of iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 is considered a normal development in the company's product cycle. When the company's product supply is no longer replenished, agents will gradually end their business to switch to focusing on new models," said Minh Tuan Mobile representative.

In fact, the removal of old models has unintentionally established a new price level. This makes the threshold for owning a genuine iPhone in Vietnam higher as users currently find it difficult to find any model priced under 15 million VND.
A representative of Hoang Ha Mobile said that for models that are no longer officially supplied from Apple, the system will stop trading to ensure transparency about product origin as well as customer rights.
Currently, the new standard iPhone lines such as iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and new generation MacBook lines such as MacBook Neo, MacBook Air M5 will become the main alternatives for the mid-range segment.
However, there is a reality that users need to accept: the selling price of new generation products is significantly higher. This comes from upgrades in hardware, components and production costs. In return, these devices will provide stronger performance and longer-term support.
