Huawei launches Mate XT2 tri-folding smartphone, 3.5 mm thin

Mate XT2 has a big change in design when switching to a folding mechanism similar to Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold and two separate screens. The 10.2-inch OLED main screen, 3.2K resolution, folds inwards to help protect the surface better against impacts.

The 6.5-inch external secondary screen supports LTPO variable scanning frequency from 1 to 120 Hz, reaches a maximum brightness of 6,500 nits and a pill-shaped camera notch similar to Dynamic Island.

Despite the large screen, the device reaches a record thinness of 3.5 to 4 mm depending on the position in the fully opened state and 12.3 mm when folded. Huawei also launched a special version equipped with Privacy Display privacy screen technology similar to Samsung's S26 Ultra, helping to prevent information tracking from surrounding angles.

Regarding hardware specifications, Mate XT2 integrates Kirin 9050 Pro chip with 9 cores developed by Huawei. The company said the processor helps increase CPU performance by 46% and GPU performance by 142% compared to Kirin 9030 Pro, and integrates an NPU capable of running large language models directly on the device. The device comes with 16 GB RAM, internal memory options from 256 GB to 2 TB and runs the new HarmonyOS 7.0 operating system.

Rear camera system with three lenses, of which the main camera is 50 megapixels, uses RYYB sensor, supports OIS anti-shake and has flexible aperture change feature f/1.49 - f/4.0. The ultra-wide angle has a resolution of 40 megapixels, while the telephoto camera has a potential of 50 megapixels with 3.5x optical zoom.

The device uses a 5,600 mAh battery, supports 66 W wired fast charging and 50 W wireless charging, and meets IP58/IP59 water and dust resistance standards.

Huawei Mate Huawei has not announced plans to distribute devices to the international market.
