Instructions on how to verify your Facebook account to receive a free badge

(Dan Tri) - Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified, a free verification program that allows Facebook users to qualify for a badge after verifying with a selfie video.

Features help distinguish real accounts

Meta recently announced Facebook Verified, a free verification badge for Facebook users 18 years and older.

This is a new feature to help people identify accounts that belong to real people in a context where AI makes it increasingly easy to create fake profiles, images and accounts.

Unlike Meta Verified, a paid subscription package on Facebook and Instagram, Facebook Verified does not require users to register monthly or verify with identification documents.

Instead, users just need to record a short selfie video for Facebook to compare with the existing photo on their profile.

According to Meta, the verification process is completely free and usually only takes a few minutes.

However, an account must meet the platform's safety standards, not violate Community Standards, and show no signs of fraud, impersonation, or unusual behavior to receive a badge.

In particular, this feature does not currently apply to Facebook Pages or accounts with professional mode enabled.

Once completed, the verification badge will appear on your personal profile, online marketplace, dating profile, and groups on the Facebook platform.

In the near future, Meta plans to expand this badge to News Feed posts.

Currently, Facebook Verified is being deployed in stages in several markets, including Vietnam, before expanding globally.

Instructions on how to receive the badge

To receive a free stamp of authenticity, users can follow these steps:

1. Open the Facebook app and go to Account Center.

2. Access the Password and security section.

3. Find the Verified selfie video section.

4. Here, select the profile you want to verify, then read the platform's instructions.

5. Click Next and wait for the security code to be sent to the email account linked to Facebook.

6. Enter the security code and press Continue.

7. Select Start selfie video and record a short video according to the on-screen instructions.

8. Facebook will then compare the video with existing profile photos to confirm identity, which can take about 1 to 2 minutes. If you meet the requirements, the badge will gradually update and automatically appear on your account.

Thus, with just a few simple verification steps using a selfie video, eligible users can receive a free verification badge that helps the account be identified as a real person.

However, Meta emphasizes that the badge only confirms that the account belongs to a person who has completed the face verification process, and does not mean that the platform guarantees the reputation or behavior of the account holder.

Users still need to be cautious when transacting, transferring money or sharing personal information with strangers.
