IFA26: Hands on 3 new Dyson R1, R2 and R3 vacuum cleaner robots launched at IFA 2026

At the IFA 2026 event, Dyson has just brought three brand new robot vacuum cleaner models. Their commercial names are quite long and complicated, but for now let's call them R1, R2 and R3 for ease of tracking. Personally, I think this step shows that Dyson is really seriously expanding its range of automatic cleaning devices, dividing them equally into each price range and each specific usage need instead of just focusing on a single machine like before.

Dyson R3: High-end model with roller rag and AI camera

The most advanced machine in this batch is the Dyson R3. Its charging station is quite large and massive, equipped with a unique Cyclone trash collection system and two separate clean and dirty water tanks. Unlike a conventional vibrating rag, the R3 uses a rolling rag cluster, capable of both mopping and washing the rag continuously in real time. A notable improvement compared to the previous model is that the machine has an additional UV light to sterilize the rags in the charging station, helping to limit the musty smell when left for a long time.

Dyson R2: Neatly hidden charging station and rotating rag mechanism

Located in the slightly lower segment is the Dyson R2, which also supports both vacuuming and mopping features. From the outside, the device's charging station looks minimalist as if it could only hold two water bottles, but when the lid is opened, Dyson has cleverly arranged three compartments, including a trash tank sucked up from the robot and two clean and dirty water bottles.

Instead of using a rolling rag like the R3, this R2 is equipped with a rotating rag cluster. The interesting point is that the rag is shaped like a triangle, but when rotated around the axis, the sweeping trajectory forms a square shape, helping to reach the edges of the floor better. Unlike the R3, the R2 model uses a LiDAR sensor cluster placed on its back to scan a map of the indoor space.

Dyson R1: Slim and lightweight design for just vacuuming needs

The final version is the Dyson R1, aimed directly at those who just need a true dry vacuum device without the mopping feature. Thanks to eliminating the entire water supply system and cleaning rag, the R1's body is significantly thinner, making it easier to fit under low cabinets. The bottom of the machine has a large vacuum brush cluster with strong suction power. The R1's charging station is also designed to be much more streamlined, including only an automatic vacuum cleaner compartment that uses the Cyclone mechanism to collect trash into the container.

Personally, I appreciate the way Dyson perfected the product range this time. Previously, Dyson's robot lines often had very strong suction power, but there were still a few points that were not really convenient when actually used in the home.

With the R3, the addition of self-washing and UV disinfection rollers promises to bring a more closed and cleaner experience. At the same time, having the R1 version that only vacuums is also a reasonable choice for families with many carpets. When these robot models arrive in Vietnam, I will borrow them for a long-term trial to verify whether the R3's AI camera works smoothly in real life or not.
