iPhone 18 Pro Max reveals battery capacity

Apple Insider technology site and famous Weibo account Digital Chat Station lead the certification documents of the Chinese C3 regulatory agency for Apple's new battery series. Unlike the previous forecast that the battery of the iPhone 18 generation only increased slightly, the new data shows a significant jump on the highest-end version.

Specifically, the iPhone 18 Pro Max model for the US market using eSim will have a 5,567 mAh battery, while the version for the physical SIM market is 5,391 mAh, an increase of nearly 10% compared to the 5,088 and 4,823 mAh of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The large difference in capacity between the US and Chinese versions is due to the hardware structure. Since the iPhone 14 generation, Apple completely eliminated the physical SIM tray on devices sold in the US market to switch to eSim, helping to free up significant space inside the device body, allowing Apple to increase the battery size.

Increased battery capacity combined with the A20 Pro processor chip manufactured on the power-saving 2 nm process is expected to help the 18 Pro Max become the iPhone model with the best battery life in Apple history.

In contrast, the iPhone 18 Pro has been upgraded insignificantly, with 4,288 mAh for the US market version and 4,056 mAh for the physical SIM version, slightly increased compared to 4,252 and 3,988 mAh of the 17 Pro.

Along with the Pro line, sources from the supply chain also revealed an important upgrade on the iPhone Air 2, expected to launch in spring 2027. The weakness in battery life on this thin and light model will be overcome when Apple increases the battery capacity from 3,149 to 3,500 mAh.

With a larger battery and dual camera cluster on an ultra-thin body, Apple is expected to apply a new OLED display technology produced by Samsung called CoE. This technology makes the screen panel significantly thinner, creating enough area for the company to mount a larger battery without increasing the overall thickness of the new generation iPhone Air.

The launch of iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra folding phone is expected to take place in early September. Meanwhile, models such as iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 may have to wait until the first half of 2027 to officially launch.
