iPhone Duo can replace the anti-glare coating for $19

Talking with content creator Angelica Siciliani Fendi, Ms. Kate Bergeron, Apple's Vice President of Hardware Engineering, confirmed that the iPhone Duo's folding screen is designed with a multi-layer laminated structure. In particular, the surface rough coating, using nano texture technology, plays the role of blurring folds and anti-glare combined with an outer protective layer that can be peeled off and replaced.

"The rough coating optimizes crease removal and has a protective layer on top. We have invested engineering effort into making this layer as durable as possible, while allowing users to peel off the old coating to replace a completely new layer," she said.

Apple's multi-layer screen design helps solve the inherent weakness of folding screens, which is the soft panel, easily damaged by nails or sand dust when folded. In the past, many foldable phone manufacturers warned users not to arbitrarily peel off the protective film layer of the main screen due to the risk of damaging the display panel below.

According to updated information on Apple's official website, the cost of screen protective coating replacement service for iPhone Duo in the US is 19 USD (470,000 VND) for devices registered with the AppleCare+ insurance package. This price is lower than the cost of purchasing a third-party screen protector for regular smartphones.

Replacement service prices for devices without AppleCare+ have not been announced. However, the fee is expected to be much cheaper than replacing the entire folding screen assembly if scratches or deterioration occur over time.

Sources from Apple said that the coating replacement will be officially performed at Apple Store centers and authorized systems to ensure technical quality.

iPhone Duo was announced on September 9, available for orders from October 16 and began delivering the device to users from October 23. Previously, Apple announced for the first time the implementation of the "Prepare Order" program for users to choose the color and capacity of iPhone Duo from October 12, helping to increase the opportunity to order when the on-sale date takes place.
