iPhone Ultra may have the same problem as iPhone Twitter

(Dan Tri) - According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple may have a supply shortage problem for the iPhone Ultra at its launch in September.

Many leaked information indicates that the first folding screen iPhone will be called iPhone Ultra. Reports say that users may have difficulty owning an iPhone Ultra when the new product launches in September.

"Sources from the supply chain revealed that the number of orders to assemble folding screen iPhones in the second half of 2026 will reach about 7-8 million devices. However, the amount of goods shipped in the third quarter will only reach 0.5-1 million devices, equivalent to 10% of total orders.

For comparison, the estimated shipments of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the third quarter reached about 20-22 million units," analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared in the latest report.

With limited supply, owning a foldable iPhone may be difficult at first. Previously, Apple also had similar problems with the iPhone Twitter model launched in 2017.

Kuo estimates that delivery times could be around 4-6 weeks or longer. Some forecasts even say that equipment prices could be pushed up 50-100% on the black market.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the folding screen iPhone and the iPhone 18 Pro duo will be introduced by Apple on September 8. The next backup plan may be September 9.

Supply chain sources said Samsung Display has begun operating part of its production line in Vietnam to fulfill an initial order of about 3 million panels. It is expected that the order will be delivered this year.

Approval for display manufacturing requires the supplier to demonstrate final assembly quality and consistency of mass production. Apple requires a productivity rate of at least 70%. Samsung Display is said to have overcome that barrier by achieving a final yield rate of over 80%.

It is expected that the folding iPhone will have a screen of about 7.8 inches when opened. This size is equivalent to the screen on the iPad mini model. The selfie camera will be placed in the upper left corner of the screen.

Meanwhile, the device's external screen is 5.5 inches in size. This screen has a shorter and more square ratio than current iPhones. This design is similar to the design of a passport.
