What is generation gap?

One fine day, I wanted to know more about the term generation gap and I just read it on Twitter, so I asked Grok to explain. It's something I've only heard about before but haven't learned much about it yet 😁. The generation gap is not simply a difference in age, but a profound difference in awareness, lifestyle and core values between groups of people. This term appeared in the 1960s in Europe and America and has become increasingly evident in the digital era. According to a survey by Pew Research Center, 79% of surveyors acknowledged the existence of this gap, which is most clearly shown by the technology usage habits between Gen Z and Millennials compared to previous generations. The core cause of this phenomenon comes from the rapid change of society. In Vietnam, this line is clearly shown between the 6X, 7X and Gen Z generations (the group accounting for 1/4 of the workforce). The older generation went through difficult times, often prioritizing stability, frugality and practical experience. In contrast, Gen Z are people considered "digital natives", having grown up with the Internet, so they value individuality, creativity and the ability to multitask. Differences in living contexts easily lead to practical conflicts. In families, parents often expect their children to have stable jobs and get married early, while young people aim to start a business, work freely and prioritize personal experience. However, the generation gap is an inevitable consequence of social development, not anyone's fault. Instead of imposing or criticizing, maintaining two-way communication and respecting differences will help bridge the gap. The combination of the previous generation's rich experience and the young people's sharp technological thinking will create the necessary complementarity, bringing positive values to both the family and the working environment.
