The moment the power bank suddenly exploded, causing the girl to suffer serious burns

Surveillance cameras at a gym in the city of Pavlodar (Kazakhstan) recorded the moment a backup battery inside a girl's bag suddenly exploded and caught fire.

Accordingly, Dilyara Khamzina, 27 years old, was preparing to leave the gym when smoke suddenly rose from inside her bag. Before Dilyara could react, the fire broke out fiercely.

Dilyara tried to take her bag off her body and throw it away, but the fire from the explosion still left her with severe burns on her head, right armpit, and singed hair and eyebrows.

"It was silent all around and there was a sudden explosion. I realized my bag was on fire and tried to take it off me," Dilyara Khamzina shared on her Instagram page with more than 12,000 followers. “My power bank suddenly exploded and my body actually caught fire.”

A gym employee tried to put out the fire from the backup battery with a fire extinguisher, but failed. This person then had to kick Dilyara's bag outside and wait for the fire to extinguish itself.

At first, Dilyara refused to call an ambulance. However, when she realized the burn was serious and began to feel pain, Dilyara was forced to go to the hospital to have her burns taken care of.

"I'm always careful when using a power bank. At night, I unplug all electrical appliances, including the microwave, because I'm afraid a fire might break out. But to my surprise, I was burned in the middle of the day," Dilyara said.

"Be careful when choosing and using power banks. Check to see if they are cracked or dented if you accidentally drop them. Don't carry power banks in your bag or car when it's hot," Dilyara added.

Local media said that at the time Dilyara's backup battery exploded, the city of Pavlodar was hot and the temperature was 32 degrees Celsius.

Why can backup batteries explode?

A backup battery is a device used to store energy and use it to charge other devices when needed. Storing energy in battery cells basically always poses a risk of fire and explosion. If the backup battery is used incorrectly, it will cause the device to explode at any time.

There are two main reasons why backup batteries explode: external factors (originating from user usage) and internal factors (originating from manufacturer errors).

With internal factors, if the manufacturer uses poor quality battery core and component materials, it can lead to the death of the internal core. This shortens the life of the backup battery, the power supply is unstable and directly affects the battery on the smartphone when using the backup charger.

Regarding user factors, many people often have the habit of placing backup batteries in high-temperature places, under sunlight, without knowing that this causes the backup battery to explode at any time.

According to manufacturers' recommendations, backup batteries should not be placed in places with high temperatures, humidity or direct sunlight. Therefore, users absolutely do not leave the backup battery in places with high temperatures such as inside a car parked in the sun, in the trunk of a motorbike, near a fire... because this can cause the backup battery to explode, causing danger.

In addition, users should not leave the backup battery in use under the pillow, in the blanket or under the mattress... because these are poor heat-dissipating objects, easily flammable and can cause a serious fire if the backup battery accidentally explodes.

Currently, backup batteries have become very popular and the price of this type of accessory is not too high, so users should choose products from reputable brands and especially follow the instructions for use to avoid unfortunate accidents that may occur.
