(Dan Tri) - Information that OpenAI, the "father" of the ChatGPT AI tool, will launch a hardware device has long appeared as rumors. This product is likely to be released soon.

Based on the documents Apple submitted to the court in the lawsuit against OpenAI, Bloomberg news agency has discovered information about the first hardware device being developed and prepared for launch by OpenAI.

Late last week, Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and two former "apple" employees accusing it of stealing trade secrets.

According to the lawsuit, Apple accused OpenAI of staging a scenario to lure former employees, and building relationships with Apple suppliers to collect trade secrets, helping OpenAI move faster into the consumer hardware business.

Information from the lawsuit shows that OpenAI is developing a smart speaker, without a screen, but integrated with an AI system to become a smart assistant right in the user's home.

This smart speaker can act as the "brain" of the entire smart home system in the family, allowing users to control devices such as turning on/off lights, opening/closing curtains, turning on music, commanding the TV to play favorite TV shows... users can also ask questions and receive answers from OpenAI's smart devices.

Bloomberg's source also said that OpenAI's device has a compact design so users can carry it with them and use it at any time, instead of a large smart speaker that is only fixed in one place.

The device is also integrated with cameras and sensors to record the surrounding environment, helping to better understand the context and user requirements to provide the most appropriate response.

It seems that Apple believes that OpenAI has stolen trade secrets related to Apple's HomePod smart speaker (integrated with Siri virtual assistant) to develop its own products.

Currently, OpenAI only has artificial intelligence software products such as ChatGPT, ChatGPT Atlas, DALL-E... entering the hardware market will not only help OpenAI gain more revenue, but will help value the company higher before issuing shares to the public, expected at the end of this year or early next year.

In May last year, OpenAI spent $6.5 billion to acquire LoveFrom, a startup in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) founded by former Apple design director Jony Ive. Therefore, it is likely that OpenAI's smart speaker will be personally designed by Jony Ive and the product will somewhat have Apple's style.
