MacBook and iPad prices simultaneously increased sharply in Vietnam

The price increase was implemented by Apple globally, including Vietnam for all computer and tablet products. The company closed its online store for a few minutes, then reopened it with new, significantly higher prices. In the US as well as many other major markets, the Wall Street Journal estimates that iPad prices will increase by 15-25% while Mac computer prices in general will increase by 15-20%.

Apple's new price increase does not include the key product that brings the company's biggest profits, the iPhone.

On the Apple Store Online page in Vietnam, the price of the company's product series increased by around 20% respectively, the more RAM the models had, the greater the increase. Best-selling products such as MacBook Neo increased starting price from 16.5 million VND to 19.5 million VND, MacBook Air M5 increased sharply from starting price 30 million VND to 35 million VND. Similarly, iPad Pro using M5 chip also increased its starting price from 30 to 36 million, Mac Studio using M4 Max chip is nearly 20 million VND higher for the 96 GB RAM version.

Major retail systems in Vietnam such as The Gioi Di Dong, CellphoneS, FPT Shop have not adjusted prices yet, but a representative of one unit said this "will happen soon this week".

"We have never seen component prices increase so much and so quickly," Apple's latest announcement reads. The company said it has been unable to continue protecting customers from skyrocketing memory and storage chip costs as the artificial intelligence (AI) industry continues to expand its data centers. In an interview last week, CEO Tim Cook also said that having to increase product prices is something that "has to happen sooner or later".

According to Reuters, the memory chip supply crisis due to the AI fever has reached the highest alarming level when Apple - the world's largest valuable consumer electronics company, which owns a relationship with a "desirable industry" supply chain - cannot avoid having to increase prices. "Apple" is the latest computer company to increase prices in the market when a series of other big companies such as Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo have started increasing prices of computers and laptops since the end of last year.

"The memory chip market is very tough and will continue to be structurally tough for the foreseeable future," predicted Ben Bajarin, CEO of technology consulting firm Creative Strategies. In the new announcement, Apple also shared its opinion that "the consumer electronics industry is facing unprecedented challenges."

Meanwhile, chip manufacturing companies recall being in the "honeymoon" period with the AI fever when they all had record sales. Micron Technology achieved revenue of 41.46 billion USD in the third fiscal quarter of 2026, four times higher than the same period last year while the stock also increased 700% in the past year. Korean memory chip company SK Hynix also had a 400% stock increase. Samsung's memory chip manufacturing company reached a capitalization of over 1,000 billion USD for the first time thanks to a sharp increase in profits last year.
