Free ChatGPT users will no longer be bored because of running out of messages

OpenAI has just announced a series of notable changes to ChatGPT, the most prominent of which is expanding usage rights to the free user group.

According to an announcement from the company, starting this week, users of the Free and Go packages will be able to chat by text without being limited to the number of times as before.

Currently, free users may encounter frequency limits when sending too many requests within a certain period of time.

Once they cross the threshold, they must wait before continuing or be redirected to a more limited experience.

With the new change, this limitation will be removed for text-only chats.

However, OpenAI says limits still apply to file downloads, image usage and other tools.

Along with removing the text message limit, OpenAI also upgraded the default model for Free and Go accounts from GPT-5.5 Instant to GPT-5.6 Luna this week.

According to OpenAI, GPT-5.6 Luna is designed to provide more useful and reliable answers in everyday use situations.

In an internal evaluation of financial, medical, and legal questions that required high factual accuracy, OpenAI said the number of responses containing at least one factual error was about 62% lower for GPT-5.6 Luna than for GPT-5.5 Instant.

In this update, free users are expected to have an additional “Think” button. Whenever they encounter a difficult question, they can activate this feature so that the AI ​​spends more time processing and reasoning before giving an answer.

OpenAI claims expanding access is a step toward making it possible for more people to continuously ask questions, develop ideas, and receive support without interruption.

Plus and Pro users still get priority for stronger capabilities

During the same update, OpenAI will upgrade GPT-5.6 Sol for Plus and Pro users.

Instead of focusing on increasing the number of features, the company says the new version is tweaked for better responsiveness.

One of the notable changes is that the answer is designed to be more direct and focused.

Accordingly, GPT-5.6 Sol will adjust the answer length according to the complexity of the question, limit cumbersome formatting and avoid adding unnecessary details.

With simple questions, the model will prioritize answers that get straight to the point. In complex tasks like research, content writing, multi-step planning, or decision making, answers can still be longer but must stay focused.

OpenAI also claims GPT-5.6 Sol is more factually reliable, especially in questions that depend on dates, figures, references, rules or assumptions.

According to internal evaluation, the number of responses containing at least one factual error was approximately 68% lower for GPT-5.6 Sol than for GPT-5.5 Instant in the tested set of financial, medical, and legal questions.

Plus and Pro users also get a new slider to adjust the level of "thought" that ChatGPT puts into each answer.

With simple questions, users can keep the processing level low to receive quick responses. When they need to research, plan, write, program, or handle a more complex problem, they can increase their level of reasoning.
