Porsche Vietnam has just announced a partnership with young racer Sawer Hoang Dat to compete in the professional class, in the Distributor Cup group at the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia 2026 formula one race. This is the first time a Vietnamese racer has participated in an international motorsport tournament associated with the Porsche brand, and is also a new milestone in Porsche's nearly 20-year journey of developing sports car culture in Vietnam. Sawer Hoang Dat was born in 2007 in Ho Chi Minh City, of both English and Vietnamese descent. Before coming to Porsche, he had a number of notable achievements in the racing industry: winning the domestic professional Go Kart tournament at the age of 13, being the first Vietnamese racer to participate in the FIA International Karting tournament in Europe, reaching the Top 5 finals of the 2023 Indian F4 tournament, competing in the 2024 F3 European Championship (FRECA), and winning the 2025 F4 Southeast Asia Championship at the age of 17.

In 2025, Hoang Dat was selected for the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool 2026 program - where young drivers are trained directly by the Porsche Sports Racing Department in the Asia-Pacific region. Entering the 2026 season, he officially switched from formula racing to competing in the GT sports car segment, driving the 992.2 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia. Technically, the 911 GT3 Cup that Hoang Dat uses is equipped with a 4.0-liter flat 6-cylinder engine, accompanied by a 6-speed sequential transmission, for a maximum capacity of 382 kW (equivalent to 520 horsepower) and maximum torque of 470 Nm. Vehicle weight is 1,288 kg.

Hoang Dat's racing car number 12 is painted in a main red-yellow tone, inspired by Vietnamese cultural motifs. On the car there is an image of Chim Lac from Dong Son Bronze Drum with the Golden Pig, associated with the racer's birth year 2007 (Dinh Hoi). The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia was first held in 2003 and is considered the leading formula one car race in Asia, gathering both professional and amateur racers. From June 2026, the tournament will change its name to Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia after adding a new partner.

Mr. Andreas Klingler, General Director of Porsche Vietnam, said that accompanying Hoang Dat at this tournament is an effort to connect Porsche's racing heritage with the domestic sports car community, and at the same time expects this to be a stepping stone for Vietnamese drivers to make their mark on the international arena. This collaboration is also placed in the context of Porsche celebrating 75 years of its motorsport history. In the near future, Sawer Hoang Dat will continue to compete at Bangsaen racetrack (Thailand) from July 3-5, 2026, and Sepang racetrack (Malaysia) from August 21-23, 2026.
