REDMI Note and the journey to build Xiaomi's position in Vietnam
(Dan Tri) - After 10 years, REDMI Note is still the flagship device, contributing most of Xiaomi's revenue in Vietnam.
After nearly 10 years of presence in Vietnam, Xiaomi has risen to the group of leading Android phone manufacturers in the market, reaching 21% market share in the second quarter of 2026 (according to Omdia's research report).
Besides smartphones, Xiaomi's ecosystem is also increasingly expanding with IoT devices, home appliances and high-end products. However, in the early years of entering the market, the brand faced many challenges. Among them, the REDMI Note series with stable sales has contributed to building a user community and laying the foundation for Xiaomi's development in Vietnam.
After 10 years, the company's product positioning has changed a lot. However, REDMI Note is still the key device range, contributing the majority of sales for the brand.
500 million REDMI Note devices
REDMI Note Series is one of the product lines that best demonstrates Xiaomi's "User-centered" philosophy. According to Xiaomi statistics, currently, more than 500 million REDMI Note devices have reached users globally. This number means that customers around the world can experience high-end technology at an accessible price.
In Vietnam, REDMI Note 4 popularized the monolithic metal design, which only appears on high-end phones, with a price of only about 3 million VND in 2017. REDMI Note 7, Note 8 bring high-resolution 36-48 MP cameras to affordable products. Fast charging solutions and high-frequency OLED screens are also popularized by Xiaomi on these lines.
REDMI Note 7 alone became the first REDMI Note device to apply an 18-month warranty policy in 2019. With REDMI Note 13 Series, the phone line continues to improve user experience with IP68 water and dust resistance.
With a consistent philosophy in product development, giving users outstanding value for the money spent, REDMI Note is still Xiaomi's best-selling device in Vietnam for the past 10 years.
Public data from Mobile World shows that nearly 230,000 devices in the REDMI Note 15 product range have been sold by this system. Across the market, the REDMI Note 15 256GB memory model is also often in the best-selling group in Vietnam in the first half of this year.
In addition to sales, the success of the product line is also measured by domestic customer satisfaction. Overcoming initial skepticism about the new brand, REDMI Note gradually built user trust in the Xiaomi ecosystem.
"I started using REDMI Note since Xiaomi was not yet officially distributing it in Vietnam. After 10 years, I am still loyal to the device because it suits my usage habits, has a reasonable price and is upgraded strongly after each generation," shared Nguyen Chinh, a user living in Phuoc Long ward, Ho Chi Minh City. Not only does this user use REDMI Note, he also trusts in choosing the device for his loved ones.
Identity REDMI Note
After nearly a decade of development, REDMI Note still maintains a consistent orientation: not following short-term trends but focusing on solving the actual usage needs of users.
“All of our efforts in the development of the REDMI Note product are guided by two principles: bringing high-end technology closer to mass users and maintaining an experience beyond the price range on every product,” Ms. Anne Wang, Marketing Director of REDMI at Xiaomi International, shared.
According to Ms. Anne Wang, REDMI Note 17 Series will take this commitment further through the REDMI Titan durability standard and the "Built for Years" philosophy. This is also the first time the REDMI Note series has introduced a Pro Max version, continuing to elevate design, quality and experience.
REDMI Note 17 Series is developed for a long-term use experience of 6 years, from battery durability, support for security patch updates to the ability to maintain stable performance over time.
The product line also holds TÜV SÜD certifications for battery performance, drop resistance and water resistance, with a testing system built around real-life usage scenarios, rather than being limited to laboratory conditions.
On the REDMI Note 17 Series, Xiaomi will introduce the largest capacity battery ever equipped on its smartphone, applying Silicon-Carbon technology. The battery maintains 80% capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, helping the device operate stably and reliably throughout its life cycle.
The durability of REDMI Note 17 Series is also verified through tests simulating actual usage conditions. The device is equipped with 17 specialized waterproof components and undergoes 10 air tightness tests before leaving the factory, to enhance water resistance in many conditions, from high temperatures, water immersion to direct contact with water jets.
REDMI Note 17 Series is also certified to be anti-fall at a height of 3m, helping the device possess outstanding resistance to common collisions in everyday life, from accidentally hitting the edge of a table to slipping and dropping the device on the road.
