Wireless charging in the car: Modern, convenient but not effective

Wireless charging is gradually becoming standard equipment in cars, largely thanks to the popularity of smartphones that support this technology. However, the operating mechanism of a built-in car charger is completely different from a charging dock used at home or in the office. The effectiveness of wireless charging depends on two core factors: precise contact points and optimal operating temperature. Although some car models are now equipped with chargers with capacities exceeding 30W, most current systems still do not have a thorough solution to maintain these two conditions.

One of the wireless chargers is designed with a phone holder During movement, vibration makes the phone easily move from the ideal contact position, leading to flickering or interruption of the charging current. Besides, the charging pad area is often airtight, combined with the heat emitted from the contact deviation causing the temperature to increase rapidly. When overheated, the system will automatically lower power to protect the battery, making the charging process slow and ineffective. Currently, only a few car models can solve this problem by designing a dedicated phone holder or integrating a separate cooling air vent for the charging pad (commonly found on some Chinese cars).

In general, wireless charging in cars is still not really effective and is not a worthwhile feature, unless the manufacturer invests more carefully in the ability to fix the device and heat dissipation solutions.
