Samsung introduces Flex Titanium technology to elevate folding screens

(Dan Tri) - Developed based on Samsung's comprehensive improvements in folding screens, this new display technology enhances durability and minimizes folds, providing a more refined folding screen experience.
Samsung Electronics announces new Flex Titanium technology for the next generation of Galaxy folding devices. Thanks to its technical expertise and solid foundation from 7 generations of continuously improving folding screens, Samsung has redesigned the screen structure, taking advantage of advances in structure and manufacturing materials to improve durability, minimize the appearance of folds, as well as provide a more refined visual experience.
Flex Titanium is realized through Samsung's expertise accumulated over many years in display technology, with the combination of two titanium-based components - a titanium alloy film and a titanium panel that work together to optimize the balance between thinness, flexibility and durability in the folding screen structure.
Mr. Sunghoon Moon, Executive Vice President and Director of Mobile Hardware Research and Development at Samsung Electronics - said: “Samsung's strength in the field of folding devices comes from the ability to connect users' actual needs with technologies that bring practical value in everyday life.
For the next generation of folding Galaxy, Samsung continues to inherit many years of experience to bring breakthroughs in display technology into the product, thereby providing an increasingly perfect user experience with outstanding display quality."
Inheriting the pioneering journey of innovating folding screen technology
Samsung has always played a pioneering role in promoting mobile screen technology innovation and popularizing these breakthroughs to users on a global scale. This journey was marked by the milestone of popularizing AMOLED screens in 2007, laying the foundation for the development of future generations of screens that can fold and open flexibly.
Through 7 generations of Galaxy Z series, Samsung listens to feedback from users. This helps Samsung fully understand their expectations for this product line: a larger, more satisfying viewing experience with a less noticeable screen crease without sacrificing durability or portability.
To meet those expectations, Samsung has redesigned the structure of the folding screen by combining breakthroughs in technology, materials and mechanical engineering. The result is the birth of Flex Titanium - a new milestone in the journey of innovating folding screen technology.
Flex Titanium: Creating a next-generation display experience
To create a display that provides both an immersive viewing experience and durability during everyday use, Samsung applied a completely new approach to structural design.
The challenge was to find a material that simultaneously converged three elements: strong enough to withstand impact, flexible enough to maintain the ability to fold and open multiple times, and thin enough to fit into a streamlined device design. Balancing all three of these factors is the key to taking folding screen technology one step further, and titanium has proven to be the optimal choice.
Samsung has successfully incorporated titanium into two core components: the titanium alloy film and the titanium panel.

The titanium alloy film layer plays the role of supporting the screen from the inside, located right below the OLED panel. Compared to traditional polymer films, this new film offers 20 times more mechanical stiffness. Thanks to the ultra-thin lamination process with high precision, the film layer reaches a thickness of about 1/3 of a human hair - making the screen panel significantly thinner.
Below is a solid titanium panel with a flexible structure, helping to support the entire screen module. Thanks to advanced hole machining technology, the gap between the display module and the adhesive layer on the panel is eliminated, helping to strengthen the bond between components.
This new design provides more stable support under the display when fully opened, while still maintaining the flexibility needed to accommodate multiple folds and unfolds.
Combining a high-resolution display structure with new generation organic materials helps the screen reproduce images with vivid resolution while still saving power consumption, thereby optimizing outstanding overall energy efficiency.

Mr. Kyung-Jin Yoo, Executive Vice President and Director of Mobile Display Product Research and Development at Samsung Display shared: "By applying a micro-pore structure to the folding part of the titanium panel, we have successfully optimized flexibility while ensuring outstanding durability. Combined with high-resolution display structure and new generation organic materials that maximize energy efficiency, this technology will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of Samsung Display. next-generation folding Galaxy devices”.
The combination of the above improvements has created a new folding experience that is both durable, maximizes content viewing on an almost seamless screen and minimizes folds while still maintaining the signature thin and light design. By harmoniously balancing durability, flexibility and structural stability, Samsung continues to elevate folding screen technology.
The new Flex Titanium technology will debut on Samsung's new generation Galaxy folding devices. More details will be announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event.
