Sony FX5: 5K Open Gate, RAW 16bit,

Sony has just officially introduced the FX5 cinema camcorder, a model that is considered one of the most important products of the FX line in many years. FX5 inherits the compact, lightweight design of FX3 but integrates many advanced features from FX6 along with new breakthrough improvements.

The heart of the FX5 is the all-new stacked Exmor RS 16.6MP full-frame sensor – significantly higher resolution than the 12MP of the FX3/FX6. Combined with the powerful Bionz XR2 processor, the camera supports 5K60 and 4.5K120 recording, providing superior image quality and faster speed.

The camera also supports Twitter-OCN 16-bit internal RAW recording, providing up to 16 stops of dynamic range and rich colors with 280 trillion colors. In addition, FX5 has 3 basic ISO levels (800/4000/12800) and Dual Gain technology to help improve image quality in dark areas.

FX5 was born with the ability to record 16bit RAW, Sony's Twitter-OCN format, solving the question of raw format fomo for small cameras in the last 2 years. Not only that, it is only 5% heavier and larger than the FX3, making the FX5 almost immediately adaptable to existing workflows with the FX3, from gimbals, small crew, simple and compact setups...

A notable highlight is the HDMI port located near the hotshoe cluster, the purpose of which is to attach a separate EVF, making the liveview viewing experience more different, more accurate, and promising the need for an accessory ecosystem in the future...

New NPSA100 battery for up to 130 minutes of recording time. Sony also promises firmware update 2.0 in August 2027 with additional 4K240 RAW, portrait interface and still image capture from video. Sony FX5 will cost 4,898 USD and can be delivered in mid-August 2026.
