Wedding photographer who took photos of more than 220 couples, faces compensation of more than 44.2 billion

A wedding photography and videography company in North Carolina, USA, was recently ordered by a court to pay nearly 1.7 million USD after hundreds of customers accused the business of receiving money but not providing photos and videos as committed. The studio name mentioned is Holly Christina Photography, a studio based in Raleigh, North Carolina, run by husband and wife team Holly Christina Scott Ayscue and Christopher Ayscue. The company used to provide wedding photography and videography service packages, but then encountered a series of complaints from customers.
Hundreds of couples did not receive their wedding photos
According to records from the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, the agency has received more than 220 complaints related to Holly Christina Photography. The total amount of money that customers said was lost was about 600,000 USD.

Service packages are of great value
According to North Carolina Assistant Attorney General Mercedes Restucha, the service packages that Holly Christina Photography sells to customers include photography and videography. For an event that only happens once in a lifetime like a wedding, not receiving these images and videos causes many customers to suffer huge losses in terms of both money and memories. Notably, according to the state of North Carolina, some customers are encouraged to pay the entire cost before the wedding day to receive preferential prices. However, after payment, they still did not receive full services as agreed. In the original article, I couldn't find information about how much the service package cost, but with more than 220 couples and estimated damages of more than $600,000, roughly dividing it is about 2 to 3 thousand dollars per couple.
The company was asked to hand over photos and videos
Before the latest ruling, the court issued an order on May 11, requiring Holly Christina Photography to return undelivered photos and videos to customers within 30 days. However, the company is said to have failed to fulfill this request. At the court hearing on October 5, the North Carolina Attorney General's Office presented the case, but no representative of Holly Christina Photography or the two owners appeared in court. The judge then granted the request for default judgment against the business. According to the judgment, the total amount to be paid is nearly 1.7 million USD.
Nearly $1.7 million in refunds and fines
This amount is divided into two main parts. Approximately $599,468.88 was calculated based on 142 consumer complaints submitted to authorities. This is the section that deals with monies that the customer is said to have lost or need to be repaid. This is money that the studio has received without returning the corresponding services, including orders for which money has been received but the studio has closed. In addition, the company also had to pay $1,114 million in civil fines. This figure is calculated based on 228 complaints, at $5,000 per case. This is just a fine, 5K per case.
But do customers really get their money back?
The court's ruling brings some relief to affected couples, but one big question remains: will they actually get their money back? According to WRAL, some customers are still skeptical about the ability to recover money after the verdict is issued. Just because the court requires businesses to pay money does not mean that the entire amount will immediately go to those affected. Even at an important court session where no representative of this studio is present, claiming money is a big question mark. The incident is also a warning to couples when choosing a photographer for their wedding day. Not only abroad but also in Vietnam, because the nature of the wedding party is extremely serious, it only happens once and is difficult to make up for. In the case of Holly Christina Photography, promises of hundreds of photos, videos and additional products ultimately led to one of the more notable disputes in the North Carolina wedding photography industry.

The reason why?
After searching for information, I did not see any side talking about why this studio did everything so poorly and also did not see this studio say anything to the victims.

After going to Facebook and their website, the pictures are not too bad, maybe the reason lies in operations, finance or data. According to: Petapixel
