(Dan Tri) - In April, Apple suddenly announced that Tim Cook would leave the company's CEO position from September 1. His replacement to lead Apple will be John Ternus.

Starting today (September 1), Tim Cook will officially leave the CEO position at Apple after 15 years of service. The person who will replace him in this position is John Ternus, who will hold the role of Senior Vice President in charge of hardware engineering at Apple from 2021, while also overseeing the company's design team.

In his farewell letter sent to all Apple employees, Tim Cook evaluated John Ternus "as a great engineer and an excellent thinker", showing that Tim Cook has complete confidence in his successor.

After leaving the CEO position, Tim Cook will take on the role of Executive Chairman at Apple, continuing to participate in directing and making senior strategic decisions at the company.

During his 15 years as Apple's CEO, Tim Cook not only overcame the giant shadow Steve Jobs left behind, but also steered the Apple ship to achieve great success, becoming a seemingly unbeatable empire.

Under the leadership of Tim Cook, Apple became the first American company in history to reach a market value of 1,000 billion USD in August 2018. By August 2020, Apple became the first American company to reach a value of 2,000 billion USD and became the first company in the world to reach the 3,000 billion USD mark in January 2022.

Apple also continuously breaks quarterly and annual revenue records set by the company itself. In particular, the iPhone continues to be the main source of revenue and plays an extremely important role for Apple. In January 2021, Apple said the iPhone had surpassed the milestone of 1 billion devices sold globally.

Under Tim Cook's "reign", Apple no longer depends on the hardware segment as before, but expands the service segment, including application business, music, online content... helping to bring in billions of dollars in revenue.

When Tim Cook became Apple CEO in August 2011, the company had an estimated market capitalization of $348 billion. To date, Apple's market capitalization has reached $4.67 trillion.

After 15 years holding the CEO position, Tim Cook has left a huge legacy at Apple, and his successor will surely have many difficulties to overcome the shadow left by Cook. This is similar to Tim Cook having to face the shadow of Steve Jobs before, but he knew how to overcome doubts to bring Apple to success.

John Ternus, currently Senior Vice President in charge of hardware engineering, is the person chosen to helm the Apple ship from today. But unlike the previous Steve Jobs, Tim Cook still sits in the position of Executive Chairman of Apple and will definitely be there to support Ternus as soon as needed.

John Ternus will have his "public debut" in his new role at Apple on September 9, when the iPhone 18 series is officially launched. This will certainly be a special occasion to help Ternus make a first impression with shareholders and Apple lovers.
