Quickly experience some optimized games on PS5 Pro: it's sharper but it's difficult to notice

I had about 2 days to experience some games on PS5 Pro. To be frank, you do not need to upgrade to PS5 Pro at the present time because what it can do is still not too clear compared to PS5, especially the games with patches for PS5 Pro are still not many, while the price of the Pro version is still high. Indeed, I had to work quite hard to recognize the differences in the same game when I played on the PS5 Pro in the old Performance mode (the previous FPS priority mode on the regular PS5) and the new Pro + PSSR mode, because the differences are very small. If you play PS5 Pro on a 98-inch TV like me and sit at a distance of about 2m, you will hardly see any difference, but if you play on a 24-32-inch gaming screen and sit at a distance of 70cm, you will probably be able to notice it more easily.

What's the difference between PS5 and PS5 Pro?

The appearance of PS5 and PS5 Pro is quite different, worth mentioning that PS5 Pro is lighter (3.1kg) and more compact, it is similar to PS5 Slim. The existing PS5 Pro Exquisite version has an optional Blu-ray drive, which is not available by default.

It's also different right from the box, the PS5 Pro's box is more compact than the old PS5.

How to play games on PS5 Pro?

With PS5 Pro and especially Pro + PSSR mode, you can play The Last of Us Part II in the previous Fidelity mode and still ensure a maximum frame rate of 60 FPS. That means you will no longer need to sacrifice display quality in exchange for FPS.

And is it really different? The answer is yes, of course it is different but for you to see that difference you need to keep your eyes close to the screen.

I will leave here two screenshots from the game The Last of Us Part II (TLOU), on the same device, PS5 Pro, in two different modes (Performance and Pro), can you see the difference? I can't put it at the original resolution because the image is too heavy. I have to reduce the image quality to less than 500KB so it will be a bit difficult to see. My original image is below.

But if you zoom in a bit, you will see the details when playing in Pro mode are better and sharper, thanks to the intervention of PSSR.

Continuing with another game that has a patch for PS5 Pro, Spider-Man 2, the results are similar to TLOU, it is difficult to notice the difference despite choosing Fidelity Pro mode for the best images and details while the FPS is still targeted at 60.

However, everything becomes "even" with the game God of War: Ragnarok, this game, in all modes on PS5 Pro I tested, the details are very difficult to distinguish, almost impossible (although there is a patch for PS5 Pro with Pro + PSSR mode).

Most of the games I tested in this article already have a patch for PS5 Pro. For games that do not have a patch like Final Fantasy If I say the thing that makes me satisfied when playing games on PS5 Pro is PSSR, it helps me play games as smoothly as in Performance mode but the image is still as beautiful as Fidelity (even if it's just a feeling).

The potential of PS5 Pro is clearly great, and from there we can imagine the PS6's ability (though still far away) to play native 4K@60FPS games or even 120FPS with PSSR. However, exploiting the full potential and capabilities of PS5 Pro depends heavily on game developers. Whether or not they release a patch to take advantage of PSSR or the PS5 Pro's new GPU is important. If you're still happy with the PS5 right now, just enjoy it for a while longer.
