Conflicting Reports Cloud the Launch Timing of Apple's Foldable iPhone

Apple's debut foldable iPhone, rumored to carry the iPhone Ultra name, has become the subject of contradictory reports about when it will actually appear. Several outlets suggest Apple has bumped the unveiling to 2027, while others insist that is not the case.

Leaker Fixed Focus Digital dismisses the delay rumor, saying Apple is sticking with its usual September reveal. Even so, initial output is expected to be sharply limited, which could make the device hard to buy as soon as it goes on sale.

Three open questions

Apple Insider cautions that a slip is still possible for several reasons. The foldable display reportedly has yet to clear Apple's demanding durability tests. The anticipated price north of $2,000 also looks risky at a moment when consumers are tightening their budgets.

The third concern is a semiconductor shortage, which could push Apple to channel its supply toward the mainstream iPhone 18 rather than a niche foldable.

One compromise scenario keeps coming up: the phone is announced in September but does not reach buyers until early 2027.

On specs, leaks describe a 5.5-inch external screen paired with a 7.8-inch internal display, housed in an ultra-thin titanium frame measuring just 4.5mm when unfolded. None of these details or timelines have been officially confirmed by Apple.
