ROG Crosshair 2006 in hand: The mainboard brings a nostalgic feeling to many people

Walking around ROG's 20th anniversary booth at Computex 2026, next to the dinosaur gaming laptops, there was a component that made me stop and look at it for a long time. That is the new flagship mainboard called ROG Crosshair 2006. This is a special edition released by ROG to celebrate the brand's 20-year development journey (2006 - 2026). I have to admit that at first sight, this mainboard gave me a very vintage feeling. Instead of following a bold, all-black style or full of RGB LEDs like the majority today, ROG Crosshair 2006 chooses its own path filled with nostalgia.

They recreated the silhouette of the legendary Crosshair mainboard launched in 2006 by using copper as the main color on the entire VRM heatsink and I/O cover. Even the four RAM slots are combined with the classic blue and milky white colors, accompanied by the early "Project G" cube logo. Overall, the machine has both the rustic, mechanical features of the 2000s and the sophistication in finishing of 2026.

A small detail that I find very sophisticated and modern is the 2-inch OLED LiveDash screen placed right on the heatsink of the main M.2 slot. This screen not only displays dry parameters such as CPU temperature, clock speed or fan speed, but it also loops two exclusive 20th anniversary animations: the Fearless Eye icon and the classic Project G logo. Those who like personalization can still upload their own animations.

At this booth, ROG also brought a very beautiful case mod called ROG TIMEFUSION using this mainboard as the focal point. This case is divided into two halves: one side is the classic bronze style revealing the structure of 2006, the other side is the neon cyberpunk edge of 2026. The Crosshair 2006 is located right at the boundary between the two halves, looking like a time bridge connecting ROG's past and future.

For me, ROG Crosshair 2006 is not just a flagship mainboard bought to plug in fans to run benchmarks. It is like a unique spiritual gift, a highly collectible item for those who have been with and witnessed the growth of the ROG icon over the past 2 decades.
