Before turning off 2G signal, users check VoLTE to maintain calls

(Dan Tri) - A missed call can lead to many troubles. Proactively checking and turning on VoLTE helps users be more ready when the 2G network is turned off according to schedule.
Waiting for the shipper to deliver but the phone doesn't receive a call or missing an important call from a loved one are all situations that can take more time for the user to process. When the 2G network is gradually turned off according to the schedule, checking the phone's communication ability early therefore becomes necessary.

According to State regulations, September 15 is the milestone to completely stop 2G broadcasting. However, at this time, network operators are implementing step by region in order to best prepare for the transition process and ensure customers' communication experience.
At Viettel, some 2G stations in areas that meet conversion conditions have been gradually turned off. Therefore, some customers may be affected by voice service earlier than September 15 if their devices or subscriptions are not ready for the transition.
4G phones can also lose contact if 2G signals are turned off
A phone that still displays 4G and can access the Internet does not mean that the phone is ready to make calls on 4G. If the phone does not support VoLTE (Voice over LTE), when the user makes or receives a call, it will automatically switch to the 2G network to maintain the voice connection, which is why users think that their phone is not affected when the network officially turns off the 2G signal.
Another reason why this condition is difficult to recognize is that communication habits have changed. Many people choose to communicate mainly through OTT applications, so they may not know that their phone can no longer make or receive regular voice calls.
Trouble only really happens when the 2G signal is completely disconnected. To maintain connection with strangers, the phone needs to make calls directly on the 4G network through VoLTE technology. If the device does not support, or has not enabled, VoLTE, users can still access the Internet using 4G but cannot make or receive calls.
In order not to be affected by the roadmap to turn off 2G signals, which is being implemented in each region, users who are using old phones, laptops or devices not officially distributed in Vietnam should proactively check the ability to call on the 4G network.

In fact, most smartphones today already support VoLTE, but users may not have checked or enabled the feature. The most common operation is to go to Settings - Mobile network or SIM and mobile network, then find options like VoLTE, VoLTE Calls, 4G Calling or 4G Voice and Data. Feature names and locations may vary depending on brand and software version.
Enabling and using VoLTE is completely free. Calls via VoLTE are still charged according to the subscriber's current package or policy, no additional charges are incurred due to using VoLTE and are not deducted from the data capacity of the package.
VoLTE also brings some direct benefits during use. Calls can be connected faster, sound quality is better, and the technology can help optimize battery consumption as the device doesn't have to switch between networks to make calls.

What if I don't know how to turn on VoLTE or if my device doesn't support it?
During the process of converting and gradually turning off the 2G network, Viettel always maintains support policies for affected customers, and proactively reviews, notifies and guides subscribers who need to convert.
Customers can go to Viettel stores, points of sale or support points to check the device, SIM and calling ability on the 4G network. Depending on each case, customers are supported to change SIMs and access appropriate device support programs to maintain contact.
Viettel recommends that customers proactively check early instead of waiting until September 15. Because the 2G shutdown is done in stages, in some areas, 2G coverage may be narrowed or stopped before the entire network shuts down.
Discontinuing 2G technology helps free up frequency resources for new generation mobile technologies, improve infrastructure usage efficiency and service quality, and promote the transition of users to the 4G/5G environment.
Proactively checking and turning on VoLTE will help users be more ready for the transition process, limit the risk of missing important calls and avoid being passive when communicating.
