How does TV placement affect the viewing experience?

(Dan Tri) - TV placement not only affects the viewing experience but also relates to viewing angle, ability to observe images and comfort when sitting for long periods of time.

Hanging a TV on the wall is a method chosen by many families to save floor space and at the same time create a neat feeling for the space. However, height, position relative to seating, and lighting in the room are all factors to consider when installing.

One of the important factors is perspective. With TV models using VA (Vertical Alignment) panels, image quality often degrades more clearly when the viewer sits away from the front position. Colors may change, images become less bright, and dark areas may lose depth.

Meanwhile, TVs using IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels often have wider viewing angles, although the ability to display black and contrast is often not as good as VA.

Therefore, if the living room has many different seating positions, users should pay attention to the viewing angle of the TV model instead of only caring about size or resolution. OLEDs often have the advantage of wide viewing angles and maintain good image quality when the viewer is not sitting directly in front of them.

The height of the TV also affects viewing comfort. If the screen is hung too high, viewers may have to tilt their heads for long periods of time, causing discomfort in the neck and shoulder area. Conversely, a TV placed too low can also cause an uncomfortable viewing position, depending on the height of the chair and distance to the screen.

With TV in the living room, a fixed number should not be applied to all cases. Users should base on chair height, viewing distance and actual sitting posture to adjust the screen position so that the head and neck are in a natural position.

Ergonomic principles for monitors in general also emphasize keeping the head and neck in a neutral position, avoiding prolonged tilting or bending.

The lighting in the room can also significantly change the viewing experience. Sunlight from windows or lamps placed opposite the TV can create reflections on the screen, making it difficult for users to see dark areas and reducing the ability to see images clearly.

Modern TVs have significantly improved their ability to handle reflections, but no model can completely eliminate this phenomenon.

If the TV must be placed in a well-lit room, users should avoid placing the screen directly facing a window or strong light source. A TV model with high brightness and good reflection handling capabilities will be more suitable for this environment. If necessary, blackout curtains can also help reduce the amount of light shining directly on the screen.

Another solution is to use backlighting behind the TV, also known as bias lighting. This can create soft backlighting behind the screen and make the viewing space more comfortable, especially in dark rooms. However, this is a solution to support the experience and cannot replace the arrangement of the TV away from direct light sources.

TV size also needs to be chosen in accordance with viewing distance. A screen that is too large when the viewer is sitting too close can make defects in the source more noticeable, while a TV that is too small at a distance makes details difficult to see.

Therefore, when installing a TV, users should not only consider whether the screen fits on the wall or not. Seating position, viewing angle, screen height, viewing distance and room lighting can all affect the user experience.

Reasonable arrangement from the beginning will help users better exploit the TV's image quality, while limiting the discomfort of having to maintain an inappropriate posture for a long time.
