Vietnam - Australia will strengthen cooperation on AI and digital technology
After the welcoming ceremony at the Governor General's Palace in the Australian capital Canberra this morning, General Secretary and President To Lam and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held talks and met with the press, according to VNA.
The General Secretary and President said the two sides discussed extensively on major directions to deepen relations.
The two countries will promote stronger cooperation in the fields of AI, semiconductors, digital technology, cyber security, green technology and emerging technologies, support capacity building to participate more deeply in regional and global supply chains, and strengthen cooperation in education - training and people-to-people exchanges.

Regarding regional and international issues, the two sides agreed to strengthen dialogue, build trust, ensure maritime and aviation security and safety, and resolve disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respect for international law.
General Secretary and President To Lam said that Vietnam has a resolution defining the foundations to build and develop into a strong maritime nation. Vietnam highly values and wishes to cooperate with a maritime power like Australia.
Vietnam and Australia will also strengthen coordination and support for each other at multilateral forums, coordinate stances on issues of common concern, encourage Australia to strengthen connections with ASEAN, strengthen ASEAN's central role and support the Mekong subregion in building a green economy and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Albanese affirmed that Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in the region. Vietnam's achievements are creating opportunities to promote stronger bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Albanese said he and General Secretary and President To Lam discussed and agreed to strengthen cooperation and further develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, enhance resilience, adaptation and economic recovery between Vietnam and Australia, and strengthen development cooperation in the fields of defense, maritime, border security, digital economy, agriculture, energy, mining, technology and science, and innovation.

Prime Minister Albanese emphasized that the two sides have many opportunities to increase trade value, as well as further strengthen economic relations. Educational cooperation is also one of the important pillars in bilateral relations. The new flight routes will promote trade and strengthen connections between the two peoples.
The Australian Prime Minister believes that the relationship between the two countries will continue to develop strongly, and wishes to cooperate closely to implement into practice opportunities to bring benefits to the people of both countries.
General Secretary and President To Lam paid a state visit to Australia on August 9-12 at the invitation of Governor General Sam Mostyn. This is the first time the General Secretary and President have come to Australia in a new position, and is also the first visit of a key Vietnamese leader since the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024.
Vietnam - Australia established diplomatic relations on February 26, 1973, upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024. Australia is currently Vietnam's 7th largest trading partner and Vietnam is Australia's 10th largest partner.
Australia is one of the largest bilateral partners providing non-refundable ODA to Vietnam. Since establishing diplomatic relations, Australia has supported Vietnam with a total of more than 3 billion AUD (about 47,000 billion VND). Science, technology and education are emerging strongly as new development drivers of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
