(Dan Tri) - Three proposed areas of cooperation include intellectual property finance, local brand development and intellectual property database building.

At a meeting with Korean Minister of Intellectual Property Kim Yong-sun on September 29 in Seoul, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan said that Vietnam and Korea need to soon develop an action plan to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on intellectual property cooperation signed on April 22.

Accordingly, Vietnam wants to promote cooperation with Korea in the intellectual property financial system, the local brand development program "One brand per village" and building an intellectual property database.

At the meeting, Minister Vu Hai Quan also shared the results of intellectual property rights enforcement in Vietnam recently.

From May 7 to August 29, the authorities administratively handled 4,989 violations, an increase of 242.73% compared to 1,456 cases in the same period in 2025; including 43 cases related to copyright and related rights.

During the same period, the number of criminally prosecuted cases was 211 cases, up from 14 cases in the same period in 2025, including 30 cases related to copyright and related rights.

The authorities also discovered and blocked 3,731 websites with content that violates intellectual property rights, including 2,877 football broadcasting pages, 506 movie screening pages, 300 story pages and 48 sales pages that violate industrial property rights.

Minister Kim Yong-sun agreed with Vietnam's proposals and said that the Korean Ministry of Intellectual Property will soon send an action plan for the 2026-2028 period to specify the contents of cooperation.

He highly appreciated Vietnam's measures to enforce intellectual property rights, and also acknowledged the coordination of the Vietnam National Office of Intellectual Property in sharing information and handling trademark registration cases with negative intentions towards Korean brands.

At the talks, Minister Kim Yong-sun also introduced the Korean Government's K-Brand initiative, expected to operate by the end of this year.

Accordingly, businesses that meet the conditions will have certification marks attached to their products, helping consumers check the authenticity of the products using their phone cameras. Korea said it is willing to share its experience in implementing this initiative with Vietnam.

Previously, on the morning of September 30, Minister Vu Hai Quan had a working session with Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Natural Resources Kim Jung Kwan on cooperation in atomic energy technology.

The Korean side shared experience in developing the atomic energy industry for more than 40 years, from the stage of importing technology, gradually localizing and mastering technology to developing export capacity and implementing nuclear power projects.

The two sides recognize that there is still much room for cooperation in research, technology transfer and human resource training, focusing on exchanging experts, connecting research institutes, universities with businesses, and supporting Vietnam to develop technical, management and nuclear safety teams.

In addition, the two countries also discussed the application of artificial intelligence in the field of atomic energy, such as design, simulation, operation monitoring, predictive maintenance and safety improvement, towards the goal of ensuring energy security and sustainable development.
