Mazda MX-5 launched in Vietnam market, starting price from more than 1.3 billion VND

After an early display period, THACO AUTO has officially opened for sale the brand's iconic Roadster sports car - Mazda MX-5 in the Vietnamese market with prices starting from 1,339 billion VND. This is a famous historical Roadster line, built in accordance with the core philosophy "Jinba Ittai" - Man and horse united, providing unique, sporty driving experiences without needing too much horsepower. Mazda MX-5 has gone through a 35-year history with 4 generations since 1989. Until now, the MX-5 is still built based on the original DNA of: Light - Cheap - Fun, instead of following new-age car trends, and maybe that is also the factor that makes the MX-5 attractive to consumers.
Chassis & Engine

To optimize performance, the MX-5 is equipped with an Advanced Front-Midship engine configuration, the engine is still located in the front of the car, but the entire engine block is pushed back, completely behind the front wheel axle and close to the cabin partition.

Because of the longitudinal engine configuration, the car has more space in the front, so despite its small size, Mazda equips the MX-5 with a double-wishbone front suspension system and a multi-link rear suspension system. The new version launched in Vietnam continues to use the Skyactiv-G 2.0L gasoline engine (4 cylinders in line, DOHC 16 valves), this engine produces maximum power of 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and maximum torque of 205 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Technically, this is a big step forward for the DOHC dual camshaft mechanical structure integrating variable valve technology (VVT). Unlike the turbocharger trend of the modern automobile industry, Mazda persists in using naturally aspirated engines on this vehicle for the following purposes: maintaining instant throttle response, creating a linear power curve that closely follows the engine rpm range from low to high, and pushing the rev limiter to 7,500 rpm. To achieve 181 horsepower from a non-turbocharged 2.0L engine, Mazda engineers have deeply redesigned the structure:

Power from the engine is transmitted to the rear-wheel drive (RWD) system through two transmission options:
Design

The new generation Mazda MX-5 applies the Kodo design language with minimalist trends and aerodynamic optimization. The car's exterior has the typical proportions of the traditional roadster: the hood is elongated, the cabin is pushed back and the rear is shortened. The big change is at the front of the car with a low radiator grille, combined with slim-shaped dual-lens LED headlights to reduce wind resistance. The lines along the body of the car are lightly embossed, connecting from the front wheel arch to the rear wheel cavity, creating a seamless feeling and lowering the visual center of gravity.

At the rear, the taillight cluster changes to a classic round shape combined with horizontal LED strips. The mechanical convertible version uses high-quality canvas that can be quickly opened/closed by hand in a few seconds, while the RF version uses an electric targa hardtop roof mechanism to enhance sound insulation when traveling at high speed.

The cabin space is designed according to the philosophy of focusing entirely on the driver. The seating positions of both the driver and passenger are shifted closer to the center and lowered close to the vehicle floor to optimize the center of gravity. The seat is a sports type with a large hip hug amplitude, helping to stabilize the body when subjected to centrifugal inertial force when cornering. The three-spoke steering wheel has a small diameter, adjustable in 4 directions to suit the driver's position.

The central dashboard maintains a three-circle mechanical layout, placing the tachometer in a central position with high contrast for the driver to easily control the power range. The short-travel floor shift lever is located close to the right hand, creating coherence in technical operations. The upper door panel details are painted in the same color as the vehicle's exterior, creating a uniform visual effect for the cabin space when the roof is opened.
